Examples include: Flovent HFA, Pulmicort, Qvar, Advair, Breo, Dulera, Azmacort. Rescue inhalers such as albuterol should not be counted. - In the past year, must have had an asthma exacerbation (a worsening of symptoms) that required: Treatment with systemic (oral, IV, injectable) corticosteroids for at least 3 days or Led to an emergency room/urgent care visit or hospitalization - Cannot also be diagnosed with the following: Cystic fibrosis, Pulmonary fibrosis, Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), Emphysema - Cannot currently smoke Study Description: The purpose of this clinical study is to test if the use of an approved asthma medication, dupilumab, can preserve long term lung function in people with moderate to severe asthma. If you are eligible, you will be asked to attend a screening visit to determine if you can enroll in the study. If enrolled, you will receive either dupilumab or placebo to be given as an injection once every 2 weeks for 3 years. You will have a 2:1 chance of being assigned dupilumab versus the placebo. The study medication will be given alongside current standard of care asthma therapy. Your total participation will last approximately 3 years and 4 months and you will be asked to attend 15 doctor’s visits. During these visits, you will complete various diagnostic and laboratory tests. The doctor’s office conducting the study will be able to provide you with more information about the study requirements. Participants who qualify for the study will receive trial-related procedures and study medication at no cost and may be compensated for time and travel.
